Wine Cap (Stropharia rugosoannulata)

The Culture: Drawn from our proprietary liquid culture, this robust Wine Cap strain has been bred specifically for outdoor bed resilience and massive fruiting bodies.

The Profile: Known as the "Garden Giant" or "King Stropharia," it produces enormous, portobello-like mushrooms with gorgeous burgundy-red caps. It has a mild, earthy, and slightly potato-like flavor that is phenomenal when grilled, stuffed, or roasted whole.

History & Benefits: A legendary companion plant in permaculture and organic gardening. Wine Caps are famous for their ability to break down woody debris, suppress soil pathogens, and attract beneficial earthworms, effectively supercharging the soil for companion vegetables. Nutritionally, they provide a dense source of protein, calcium, and iron.

Fruiting Conditions: Best grown outdoors in shaded woodchip beds, straw, or compost rather than indoor sterile bags. Thrives in seasonal temperature fluctuations and natural rainfall, typically fruiting heavily in the spring and fall.
