Black Poplar (Agrocybe aegerita)

The Culture: Drawn from our proprietary liquid culture, this robust Black Poplar strain is closely related to the Pioppino but bred for darker caps and a uniquely peppery bite.

The Profile: A phenomenal culinary mushroom that forms tight clusters of dark, chocolate-brown caps. It possesses a snappy, crisp texture that holds up perfectly to high-heat cooking. The flavor is intense, woodsy, and slightly peppery, making it a favorite for roasting, incorporating into rich pork dishes, or tossing into heavy cream sauces.

History & Benefits: With agricultural roots dating back to the Roman Empire, it has been a staple of Mediterranean cuisine for centuries. It is highly valued in functional nutrition for its impressive profile of essential amino acids, dietary fiber, and naturally occurring anti-inflammatory compounds.

Fruiting Conditions: Thrives on supplemented hardwood sawdust (HWFP). Enjoys cooler fruiting temperatures between 55°F – 65°F. Requires high humidity (90%+) and excellent fresh air exchange to prevent the clusters from stalling.
