Pearl Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus)

The Culture: Drawn from our proprietary liquid culture, this Pearl Oyster strain is bred for sheer speed and resilience, making it a staple for both beginners and commercial growers.

The Profile: The quintessential Oyster mushroom. It produces large, beautiful, creamy-white to pale-grey caps with a tender, velvety texture. Its flavor is mild, slightly sweet, and earthy, absorbing the flavors of whatever it is cooked with—perfect for soups, pastas, and stir-fries.

History & Benefits: First cultivated on a large scale in Germany during World War I as an agricultural response to food shortages, it is now one of the most widely consumed mushrooms globally. It is rich in high-quality protein, B-complex vitamins, and statins like lovastatin, which are studied for their cardiovascular benefits.

Fruiting Conditions: Incredibly aggressive and forgiving. Thrives on almost any lignocellulosic waste, from supplemented hardwood (HWFP) to straw and coffee grounds. Prefers temperatures between 55°F – 70°F.
